We often hear about and talk about the struggles and problems faced by employees, and mostly we favor that side of the coin. When I worked in different companies, I also used to see only this side of the coin, but now I can see and analyse both sides of the coin. And believe me, it’s not that simple!
There would be many other employers like me also, who were in employment for years before, and now running their own companies, but people seldom talk about this side of the coin.
Irrespective of how hard it is to believe, most employers do care about their employees, their teams; they want to give the best experience and opportunities to their team members, they appreciate honest & hard working people, and they indeed are emotional for their team members, but they have been lied to, hurt, and betrayed so many times, that they are scared of letting their people know that they care, that they want to believe.
An employer has put-in huge amounts of effort, years of hard work, dedication, faith and consistency in building a company, to not only explore opportunities for themselves, but for many others, for all of their team members. And, they continue to work hard and struggle every day to survive and grow with all of their team members and many more.
The truth is, the day an employer releases the salary, is equally a special day for the employer as it is for the employees. They feel relieved to have released the salaries. But, since they have seen it many times, they also fear that any month they could find an employee simply unavailable from the next day, or find a resignation email by an employee on the evening of the salary day.
Yes, you earned your salary, but before that, your employer earned all that money through continuous everyday work, strategies, plans, and an undying faith. They could have even faced those times when they were left with almost no money in their accounts after releasing the salaries, yet they feel good and relieved about it. They work to earn it even on most of the holidays.
No, no one stays forever in any company. An employer knows it. But, when they have entrusted you with 3-4 months of training, they also want to trust you with a minimum of a year’s association.
Work from home is another fear! Most of the employers do want to give you that flexibility, but trusting employees with a minimum of 8 hours of work is another challenge. Only a few professionals work from home sincerely, but unfortunately, not all.
An employee not working a day is a lot more loss to an employer than that day’s salary of the employee. And, I’m not talking about leaves. When a professional takes well-informed leaves, all the work is planned and managed, but when you are suddenly absent for no valuable reason or not working even for a few hours from your office desk also, the hard earned company of the employer takes a step back.
More often than not, employers are blamed for the bad office experiences, which are mostly created by one set of employees for another set of employees. But it’s an employee’s battle field, where either you have to fight stronger or take a stand to reach out to the employer, who would mostly be happy to listen. But that rarely happens.
The employer mostly has a lot many things going in his mind about the work and company, has multiple jobs to do and look after; so they barely have time and mind space to keep a check on the behaviours of the employees with each other. But they do always want a healthy working environment for everyone. And, if they do interfere, would the employees really appreciate it or mock it?
Employees often complain that they aren’t appreciated for their work, while they ignore the yearly bonuses, promotions, hikes, opportunities – which are tokens of appreciation.
But, do employers ever get appreciated? Does anyone ever say that my boss is a good employer or that particular company’s employer was good!?
