How I Learned to Work for Success in Difficult Times?

Irrespective of how much faith we have or whether we are wiser or not, difficult times are DIFFICULT. But these difficult times can also be more.

Since I started working and chose to be financially independent, I have had my difficult times, many times, which certainly troubled me, but I always found a way to rise above them.

I was a fresh graduate; no one would like to hear from me.

When I started my career as a Content Writer about 15 years back, when digital marketing was all about only SEO, PR, and Google Ads; when social media was just starting with organic postings and no ads, the major part of the debate in the content team was always about ‘how a particular sentence or copy should be written’, where everyone was trying to prove themselves Grammar Geeks, while most of them had never touched a grammar book.

But, I was almost a fresher then, no one would hear me, which was painful then and didn’t matter years later. That time, I simply focused on doing my work that is writing, which I loved (for those who don’t know, this used to be the common agency culture then and I was working in one of today’s well-known agency). Believe me; it was difficult for me then and for my other team mates also.

When I became an Editor,

This was the time I had grown to a little senior position, wherein I was leading most of the important content and communications for the company, doing projects single-handedly (some of those projects which I started are now recognized brands), but I was still struggling to get recognized and appreciated for the skills & knowledge I had, which certainly mattered at that time, but didn’t matter years later. That time, I focused on the good opportunities I was getting.

When I became a part of the management,

Since I came from a content & literature background, content has always been my strongest part, which enabled me in identifying the errors and inefficiency in content & copies written by the content team. I tried training them and helping them improve, but they weren’t seem to be interested in improving. This ended up in me re-doing almost all the content & copies, when it was not my job, as I was responsible for ensuring good content & and marketing and I took my responsibility seriously. During this time, I was satisfied with my Marketing part of the job, but I was working extra hours every day to re-do their content work, while my employer was fine with it as they only cared about the work.

These were only major stages of my career; there were many more difficulties also.

My transition,

This made me realize that if I am myself capable of doing the work of more than half of the team of an agency, then why not run my own agency? Also, I knew that I could deliver projects better if I don’t have to follow the guidelines of lesser-knowledgeable people (and it’s not my arrogance, but experience & and expertise). My partner having expertise in Web & IT, and wanting to do the same, gave us more confidence to start our own. I have always been a hard working person, so I never feared working more and harder.

It was never easy.

Starting a business of your own, without taking any support from family & and people, and only based on your skills and expertise, is never easy. There have been many ups & downs, but we continued on our faith in ourselves as well as the Almighty, we continued with determination and hard work, and now, it’s been 6 years of running my agency.

My entrepreneurial journey also have had many difficulties, and now that I am running two different businesses, another one is my hotel, and also working on building the third one, the difficulties have been countless.

But I will share this part of my journey some other day, and for now, all I want to say is:

You could be having a bad time in the office, with a not so healthy environment, or an irrelevant work load,

Or you could be having a frustrating time with your clients,

Or you could be losing many projects,

Or you might have been required to resign without a new job offer,

You could have faced a major loss because of someone else,

Your personal life could have been affecting your work badly,

You could not be making many sales,

Your business growth could have been struck at a place for too long,

You could have a lot of financial load,

But, there’s always a way to do better for the future….

You can focus more on your work & skills, ignoring the office environment, and give your best, till you get a better offer, if needed,

You can always move on from the past or existing loss, by making more profits in the future,

You can work even harder; explore more possibilities to get more clients and projects, instead of wasting your time & energy on the bad ones,

It could be that your hard time at work is affecting your personal life instead, and maybe allowing some time for improving your personal life can also improve your professional life,

You can always re-think your business/marketing/sales strategy and take some expert help to revive your brand, as you could be doing something wrong,

And, if you’ve got nothing to do, there are always opportunities lurking to be revealed by learning new skills, till you get that better opportunity to prove your skills.

Last but not the least, always remember, that hard work always brings better times sooner & later!
